After Hurricane Matthew – Counting Our Blessings!

Thank you to our many friends who inquired about our safety and our houses!  Abaco was spared the hurricane force of Matthew, and the tropical storm winds did minimal damage.  Here are some pictures that show just how lucky we were!

Some of the new coconuts we had just planted before Matthew. I hope they will be upright by the end of today. :)

Look at the root system of this baby coconut! It 'held its ground' against the highest tides of Matthew! Our little 'Hero Tree!'

Our tallest trees are FINE! The 30' tree on the right that we transplanted 3 years ago held firm!

No problems at Camp David! We will be putting the deck furniture and beach toys out in the next few days to be ready for guests!

Kokomo and the new coconut trees are looking great!
Kokomo and the new coconut trees are looking great!  The fence at Kokomo is damaged again, and we will probably take it down.  It was fairly new when we bought the lot in 2008, but is not constructed of materials that can withstand heavy winds – so it is not a good choice for our location.
This is the 25' tree we transplanted to the beach of Kokomo 3 years ago - looking good after the storm! One of our conclusions from this experience is that Coconut Trees are THE BEST! The give you the feeling of being in paradise and they hold and protect your beach in a storm! They are my favorite tree!...and I will continue to add to our 'coconut grove' every year. :)
