In September 2015 we made several improvements to Calypso, the major one being the extension of the center deck, for star gazing, and the addition of wide steps to the beach and handrails for both sets of steps to the deck from the house. I think you will agree that it made a BIG difference in the livability and enjoyment of the deck and beach. We also had concrete poured in the parking area and decking for most of the rest of the area under the house. We also improved the lighting in on the decks and below.

In October 2017 – we extended the deck again and installed a larger hot tub! Here are some pictures featuring some of the changes we made.

  1. Dear Kathy,
Our stay at Calypso was fantastic! I literally cried when we left! From the champagne in the refrigerator upon arrival, to the gorgeous vistas… we can hardly wait to come again. Thank you for making our 40th birthday week so very special! Your little slice of paradise is second to none!

  2. My husband, I and 2 other couples recently spent a wonderful relaxing week at Kathy and Gary Heacock’s Calypso. Calypso is a comfortably appointed cottage on the beach at Casurina Point. If you want utter relaxation this is the place to go. We read, waded, used the spa and fished on our own schedules…just delightful. While we mainly self-catered, we did enjoy two wonderful meals out at nearby destinations. Pete’s Pub and Gallery is the place to go for freshly caught fish. I had the trigger fish and it was delicious. The Delphi Club offered a wonderful eight course tasting menu on Friday night that was one of the finest meals i ever had. I can’t speak highly enough about Abaco as a destination and Calypso as a place to stay. I plan to go back next year.

  3. As so many have said before me, this is a wonderful place to vacation. Gary and Kathy are remarkable host/ess and so generous with their time and spirit for life on Abaco. A special thanks to Gary for introducing me to some local fishing enthusiasts. Casaurina has some good bonefishing locations. A school of smaller Bones and Snapper is often found a few doors east of Calypso in front of the pink house. Further east and around the point, are areas mixed with sand, marl and grass. More and larger bones call this home. Watch for tails on a low tide. You will get one good shot so make it count as these are smart fish! The south and east sides of Duck Cay offer some interesting locations with schools of still larger bones (up to 7lbs) as well as Mutton Snapper and Trigger Fish. There are two smaller islets east of Duck worth exploring. I was told the creek to the west of the house can produce. I recommend unweighted flies with weed guards for working the tails over grass at low tide. Veverka shrimp worked well over sand and marl. When not fishing, Pete’s Pub is a must. For finer dining, The Sandpiper at Schooner Bay is excellent and the proprietor (James) is a fishin’ buff too. Went on guided excursions with Ricardo (out of Sandy Point) and Paul Pinder (out of Abaco Lodge) and both provided lots of action. Met JR, the local guide at Casaurina, on my last day so unfortunately had no opportunity to go with him (but will next year).

    Tight lines!

  4. Dear Kathy & Everyone looking for an Amazing place to go on Vacation!!!! My Family of 9 always vacation in St. Augustine, FL each year because it’s close & affordable. We have been wanting to stay on one of Kathy’s properties since 2009. Finally in 2014 our dream came true!!! As annoying as I was with a million questions, Kathy was patient, pleasant, and always got back to me in a timely manner. I am not the type of person that likes “Touristy”, packed, generic resorts. I loved that our house was private, the beach was private, and there were so many things to occupy the Adults and teenage kids! The fishing boat was amazing!!! Kayaks, Hammocks, Paddle boards, etc. The water is Breath Taking!!!! We could walk forever and still stand in waist deep water and see our feet!! At one end of the beach there was a beautiful shallow area when the tide was low and we found so many gorgeous sea creatures. Beautiful Huge Red Star fish, Live sand dollars in the water that you can’t miss. There was a little drop off that we snorkeled in and found many things….a bike, boat, lawn mower, and lots more- which was kinda cool for us northern Floridians that can’t see our feet in our water. The house was equipped with everything you could possibly need and more. We took a ferry and explored Hopetown, which was very cool- beautiful water…a deeper blue, but Gorgeous!! That’s where we snorkeled a lot and found all the “Nemo” fish:) Whem we left we stopped at another island which was amazing also. We can’t wait to go back!! And now we say we are going back to “Our House in Abaco”! Thanks again Kathy for everything!
We Loved Every Second of it!!!!!

  5. We had an absolute wonderful and relaxing time. Calypso is a lovely property on a beautiful beach, and everything was as described. It accommodated the six of us with room to spare and had every amenity needed. The boat made this property special with the wonderful fishing right there by the property, and the kayaks and paddle boards were bonuses. We loved that the hot tub had been upgraded to a six person – very nice! I would highly recommend this property!!

    1. Thank you so much for taking the time to write this Shelly! We are so glad you had a great vacation and look forward to having you back some day soon. Kathy 🙂

  6. We were in the Calypso 2014 and it made an indelible impression on us.
    What beauty and peace.
One of our best vacations EVER
I was saddened to hear of the hurricane hitting your island.
    Are your properties still standing?

    1. Hello Marta & Harry –
I am so sorry that I JUST found these message, so I am a week late responding. I hope you found the blog on this web site that explains what happened at Casuarina and even has a flyover that shows how well all the houses at Casuarina Point fared. If you have not found it, please key in ‘Dorian’ in the search box and you will find it that way. We were SO lucky! Minimal damage to the whole neighborhood. Water has already been restored to Casuarina and we expect the power to be on in a couple of weeks. I hope you will come back again some day! Thank you for checking on us.

  7. What a wonderful experience. I have never been to the Bahamas and after my wonderful stay with friends at the Calypso I am not sure I will ever want to go anywhere else! The house was set up for a large group and have all the accommodations you would need. From paddle boarding, the boat, the outside shower, and the hot tub, we had an absolute blast.
We appreciated how detailed the book was with the information on the tides and information about open restaurants and things to do.
The Island was beautiful and the people on the island were very nice and helpful as well.

I cannot say enough how great this experience was for me and my friends!

    1. Thank you so much for taking the time to post this, Joy. I am so happy hearing that you had a wonderful time at Calypso. I do hope you will return again some day – and please tell your friends about us, too. 🙂

  8. We stayed at the Calypso in late May-June, 2022. This place is one of the most beautiful places I have ever been. Having never been to the Bahamas before I was a bit hesitant. But when I got there, everything changed. If you want privacy, seclusion and serenity, this is the place to be. I could sit on the front porch for hours and just stare at the ever-changing colors of the water as the tide goes in and out. Being from Florida I like to swim. It was great to wake up in the morning and just jump in for a few laps….and then sit on the porch with a cup of coffee.
There were five of us so we had plenty of room. Actually, you could fit 12, no problem. It is off the beaten path so to speak, but it was just what we were looking for. The locals are friendly and kind. You do have to drive on the left side but it was fun.
Kathy was just a super-host. Any questions we had, she responded quickly. And the info we got from her beforehand made it that much easier. So, if you are looking for a place to put everything behind for awhile, this is the place.

    1. Oh Michael! What a WONDERFUL message. Thank you! We think Casuarina Point is a SPECIAL place, and I am SO GLAD you had a good time. THANK YOU for posting this! Sorry I am late seeing it.
